Week 4

Thing 8: I admit that I was actually dreading this week because I had never heard of an RSS feed and newsreader. I have to admit that I was pleasantly surprised! I actually do check a couple of websites every day, mostly WMDT weather and the headlines on CNN. I think it's neat that you can go to one site and get the latest updates on as many pages as you want. I found it easy to set up the account and add things. I tried to post my Bloglines web address, but it didn't work.
Thing 9: I consider myself to be pretty technically savvy, but that whole Merlin site has me baffled. I think I would need a demonstration on how that would help me in my every day job. I don't see anything that really applies to me, but maybe I'm not looking in the right place. And there's a ton of technical jargon on there that would take me a month to look up. So far, I haven't found any library blogs or sites devoted to I & R, my main interest. I'd love to find some, though.

Week 3

Thing 5: I was drawn to this image in Flickr. It depicts a young mother and her baby, in India. I did a report on women in India in college, and it's one of the few countries in the world where the life expectancy of women is less than that of men.
Thing 6: I really liked the Flickr color picker. What a cool way to get an image in the exact color you need!
Thing 7: What did we do before e-mail? I love it so much! What an easy and cheap way to stay in touch with friends and family! We spent a lot of time on the phone and writing letters before these advances in technology. But what are we doing with all this free time now? It seems we should have more but our lives just are getting more cluttered and complicated. Still, e-mail is my lifeline and I think it is one of the greatest technologies available.

Week 2

Thing 3: Creating the blog was easy since CCPL already has a blog on this site and I'm used to using it. I'm a little nervous about everyone reading my blog.....it's available on the world wide web, as well as other staff and supervisors reading it! I guess I won't be the only one discovering new things about myself....all my co-workers and the world at large will as well!
Thing 4: Okay, now this is getting confusing. A Permalink? What???

Week One

Thing 1: Took me awhile to read about the program and try to figure it out. I'm excited to see what I can gain from the program!
Thing 2: I really enjoyed the tutorial about the Habits of Successful Lifelong Learners. I printed out the habits and taped them to my CPU to serve as constant reminders. Really need to set some goals.......

Discovery Post

The Habit that would be easiest for me is to teach or mentor others. I enjoy working with people, and love to share resources and knowledge if I think it would make their job or life easier. I think one of the hardest for me would be to play. I forever trying to find time to check the next thing off my list and feel guilty when I take time for myself.

My First Post

Here is my first post as I am setting up my very own blog.
